Dr Aditya Benjamin
Director
Trauma & Acute Care Surgeon
Dr Aditya Benjamin, is the Acting Director of the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Unit at Liverpool and is a skilled and experienced FRACS-certified surgeon with a background in both India and Australia. His qualifications include MBBS, MS (General Surgery), DNB (General Surgery), MRCS (England), and FRACS. Dr Benjamin trained and worked at CMC Vellore before pursuing fellowships in Trauma at St. George Hospital, NSW, and in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at Liverpool Hospital, NSW. These opportunities allowed him to gain valuable experience in managing complex trauma and acute surgical cases. In addition to his surgical practice, Dr Benjamin is dedicated to education, serving as an instructor for the Definitive Surgical Trauma Care (DSTC) course and the Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST) course, which is the Australian counterpart to the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) program. Dr Aditya Benjamin is a versatile surgeon and educator, passionate about trauma and acute care surgery, and committed to both his clinical practice and the education of future medical professionals.
Dr Paul Lambrakis
Deputy Director
Trauma & Acute Care Surgeon
Dr Paul Lambrakis is the Deputy Director of the Acute Care Surgical Unit and a General Surgeon at Liverpool Hospital. He has a specific interest in Emergency General Surgery and brings extensive experience in minimally invasive surgical techniques in emergency surgery. Paul was the inaugural ASU fellow at Liverpool Hospital in 2013 and prior to this completed post fellowship training at Nepean Hospital in Endocrine surgery. He is an enthusiastic teacher and is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer with the University of New South Wales.
Dr Valerie Malka
Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon
Dr Valerie Malka is a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon and has recently stepped down as the Director of the Trauma and Acute Care Surgical Unit at Liverpool Hospital to take on the Clinical Director position of the NSW Institute of Trauma and Injury Management. She was the previous Director of Trauma Services at Westmead Hospital for over a decade. She is an EMST Director and DSTC Instructor with a great passion for trauma and acute care surgery. With special interests in education and quality assurance she has worked extensively in patient safety and the maintenance of ethics in healthcare. Valerie has worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Rescue Committee and holds a Diploma in International Humanitarian Assistance from Geneva University and a Master’s Degree in International Public Health with a major in Humanitarian Law. She also holds a Master’s degree in Journalism and works freelance writing medical, health and wellbeing articles.
Dr Scott D’Amours
Trauma & General Surgeon
Dr Scott D’Amours is a Trauma Surgeon at Liverpool Hospital in Sydney. He is an enthusiastic trauma & surgical educator and senior lecturer in Trauma at the University of New South Wales. Scott is a member of the Royal Australasian college of Surgeons Trauma Committee & is currently the Chairman of DSTC Australasia as well as a member of the International DSTC Committee of IATSIC.
Dr Alex Georges
VMO Specialist General Surgeon
Following a short career as a physiotherapist, Dr Alexander Georges moved to medicine where he graduated from the University of Sydney in 2009. He commenced his internship and resident training at Nepean hospital before beginning general surgical training in 2014 in the Western Sydney network. In 2018, Dr Georges obtained his fellowship in general surgery and took a position as a fellow at Nepean hospital in acute care surgery the following year. In 2020, he was appointed as a general surgeon to Bowral Public Hospital with an appointment at Southern Highlands Private hospital soon after. He was subsequently appointed to Liverpool hospital as a VMO in the trauma and acute care surgical unit. Dr Georges consults on a variety of general surgical conditions and performs both open and laparoscopic surgery, gastroscopy and colonoscopy (GESA accredited).
Dr Georges is involved with junior medical officer education as well as being a CCrISP course instructor for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. In additional to his clinical duties he is chair of the Bowral Hospital clinical council and co-ordinates the surgical morbidity and mortality meeting there as well.

Dr John Crozier
VMO Specialist Vascular and Trauma Surgeon
Dr John Crozier is a Vascular and Trauma surgeon at Liverpool Hospital. He has chaired the binational Trauma Committee of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons since 2014. He serves as vascular surgical specialty representative on the RACS Council. He held the role as Brigadier Director General of the Australian Defence Health Services – Army Reserve, and had deployed operationally on several occasions, the first, 25 years ago, to Rwanda. He is co-chair of the National Alliance for Action on Alcohol. Has recently co-chaired an inquiry into the National Road Safety Strategy 2011-2020.

Trauma Coordinator Clinical Nurse Consultant
Melissa Murphy is a Trauma Coordinator Clinical Nurse Consultant at Liverpool Hospital. She studied Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Clinical Leadership at University of Western Sydney. With over 20 years’ experience in Emergency Nursing, Trauma Nursing and Quality and Patient Safety, Melissa has a strong interest in clinical leadership, clinical education, and patient advocacy and safety.
Lee-Ann Thomas
Trauma Clinical Nurse Consultant
Lee-Ann Thomas Clinical Nurse Consultant at Liverpool hospital. Lee-Ann has Studied and Bachelor of Nursing and Clinical Practice (Paramedics) at Charles Sturt University. Lee-Ann has gained her clinical and trauma experience in working in tertiary facilities both here in Australia and the Middle East. Throughout 10 years of clinical practice Lee-Ann has developed a profound interest in the development and management of clinical processes and identification of clinical education needs to improve the care of trauma patients at Liverpool Hospital.
Sally Forrest
Trauma Case Manager
After Hours Clinical Nurse Specialist
Sally Forrest has been working in the Trauma Case Manager role at Liverpool since 2003. Sally is an experienced emergency nurse and has worked in emergency & trauma within rural, remote and metropolitan centres since 1999. Sally has worked within the retrieval service at CareFlight International as a flight nurse, retrieving critical care patients. Her qualifications include Bachelor of Nursing, Graduate Certificate in Emergency and Orthopaedic Nursing, First Line Emergency Care (FLEC), Trauma Nursing Core Course, and Disaster Training. She is eFAST Emergency Ultrasound accredited trainer and is an EMST coordinator. Sally’s role as Trauma Case Manager is to coordinate the care of the trauma patient from arrival to discharge. Sally’s focus is educating staff, patients and their families in trauma systems and management.
Jessica Rix

After Hours Clinical Nurse Specialist
Jessica Rix is a Trauma Case Manager/Clinical Nurse Specialist at Liverpool Hospital. Jessica has a background in Emergency nursing, specialising in triage and providing immediate emergency care to trauma patients.
She has completed a number of post graduate studies including a Masters in Clinical Nursing, specialising in Emergency Care.
Career highlights include working alongside the trauma team, attending trauma calls within the Emergency Department, enhancing the patient’s health care journey to achieve positive health care outcomes, providing afterhours trauma support and education to patients and nurses within Emergency, Intensive Care and through to the wards. Working hours 1400-2230.
Nevenka Francis
District Injury Prevention Clinical Nurse Consultant
Nevenka Francis is the District Trauma Clinical Nurse Consultant, with a clinical background in emergency and intensive care who has completed a postgraduate certificate in ICU and Masters in Public health. Nevenka is an AUSMAT trained as well an EMERGO instructor and regional EMST coordinator. Nevenka is also a conjoint lecturer with The University of New South Wales. Nevenka has a strong interest in disaster preparedness and management, education delivery across the district and injury prevention. Nevenka is also the coordinator for the P.A.R.T Y (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth) Program at Liverpool Hospital.

Stephanie Penza
Education & Training Manager
Stephanie is new to the role of Education and Training Manager and brings a variety of knowledge and experience to the role. Stephanie holds a Diploma in Leadership and Management and a Diploma in Event Management. She has used these skills in her roles within Liverpool Hospital in Medical Administration, Medical Education and JMO Teaching. Prior to NSW Health, Stephanie worked within Transport NSW for over 13 years and worked managing major events at different sites including Olympic Park.

Monique Micallef
Clinical Support Officer
Monique Micallef is the newest member to the Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Unit. Her role covers all aspects of administration, clinical support and secretarial support for the team.
Monique has been employed with NSW Health for the past 22 years, previously working at the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick and comes to us with great experience and knowledge.
Sowmya Kadava
Clinical Support Officer
Sowyma is one of the newest Administration Officers to the Trauma and Acute Care Unit, where she co-ordinates the Trauma Department Outpatient Clinics. Sowyma performs various administrative tasks to ensure the unit runs efficiently and smoothly for everyone, taking pride in offering a helping hand.
