Dr Aditya Benjamin, is the Acting Director of the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Unit at Liverpool and is a skilled and experienced FRACS-certified surgeon with a background in both India and Australia. His qualifications include MBBS, MS (General Surgery), DNB (General Surgery), MRCS (England), and FRACS. Dr Benjamin trained and worked at CMC Vellore before pursuing fellowships in Trauma at St. George Hospital, NSW, and in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at Liverpool Hospital, NSW. These opportunities allowed him to gain valuable experience in managing complex trauma and acute surgical cases. In addition to his surgical practice, Dr Benjamin is dedicated to education, serving as an instructor for the Definitive Surgical Trauma Care (DSTC) course and the Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST) course, which is the Australian counterpart to the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) program. Dr Aditya Benjamin is a versatile surgeon and educator, passionate about trauma and acute care surgery, and committed to both his clinical practice and the education of future medical professionals.

Dr Paul Lambrakis is the Deputy Director of the Acute Care Surgical Unit and a General Surgeon at Liverpool Hospital. He has a specific interest in Emergency General Surgery and brings extensive experience in minimally invasive surgical techniques in emergency surgery. Paul was the inaugural ASU fellow at Liverpool Hospital in 2013 and prior to this completed post fellowship training at Nepean Hospital in Endocrine surgery. He is an enthusiastic teacher and is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer with the University of New South Wales.

Dr Valerie Malka is a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon and has recently stepped down as the Director of the Trauma and Acute Care Surgical Unit at Liverpool Hospital to take on the Clinical Director position of the NSW Institute of Trauma and Injury Management. She was the previous Director of Trauma Services at Westmead Hospital for over a decade. She is an EMST Director and DSTC Instructor with a great passion for trauma and acute care surgery. With special interests in education and quality assurance she has worked extensively in patient safety and the maintenance of ethics in healthcare. Valerie has worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Rescue Committee and holds a Diploma in International Humanitarian Assistance from Geneva University and a Master’s Degree in International Public Health with a major in Humanitarian Law. She also holds a Master’s degree in Journalism and works freelance writing medical, health and wellbeing articles.

Dr Scott D’Amours is a Trauma Surgeon at Liverpool Hospital in Sydney. He is an enthusiastic trauma & surgical educator and senior lecturer in Trauma at the University of New South Wales. Scott is a member of the Royal Australasian college of Surgeons Trauma Committee & is currently the Chairman of DSTC Australasia as well as a member of the International DSTC Committee of IATSIC.

Following a short career as a physiotherapist, Dr Alexander Georges moved to medicine where he graduated from the University of Sydney in 2009. He commenced his internship and resident training at Nepean hospital before beginning general surgical training in 2014 in the Western Sydney network. In 2018, Dr Georges obtained his fellowship in general surgery and took a position as a fellow at Nepean hospital in acute care surgery the following year. In 2020, he was appointed as a general surgeon to Bowral Public Hospital with an appointment at Southern Highlands Private hospital soon after. He was subsequently appointed to Liverpool hospital as a VMO in the trauma and acute care surgical unit. Dr Georges consults on a variety of general surgical conditions and performs both open and laparoscopic surgery, gastroscopy and colonoscopy (GESA accredited).

Dr Georges is involved with junior medical officer education as well as being a CCrISP course instructor for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. In additional to his clinical duties he is chair of the Bowral Hospital clinical council and co-ordinates the surgical morbidity and mortality meeting there as well.

Dr John Crozier is a Vascular and Trauma surgeon at Liverpool Hospital. He has chaired the binational Trauma Committee of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons since 2014. He serves as vascular surgical specialty representative on the RACS Council. He held the role as Brigadier Director General of the Australian Defence Health Services – Army Reserve, and had deployed operationally on several occasions, the first, 25 years ago, to Rwanda. He is co-chair of the National Alliance for Action on Alcohol. Has recently co-chaired an inquiry into the National Road Safety Strategy 2011-2020.

Dr Leon Lam is a senior clinical Radiologist at Liverpool Hospital. He has sub-specialist interest in Emergency, Trauma and Thoracic imaging. He actively participates in in the care of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery patients by providing imaging reviews. He also facilitates clinical meetings with the Intensive Care Medicine and Respiratory Medicine Departments. Dr Lam provides teaching to Radiology, Emergency, Trauma and Acute Care Surgery trainees. He is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of NSW and Western Sydney University.

Dr Jonathan Reddipogu is the new Trauma and Acute Surgery Unit fellow for the term 2024/2025.
